Discovery
Loesyn’s™ unique formulation was developed through Unigen’s proprietary Phytologix® technology platform, based on a collection of more than 12,000 plants and marine samples with documented human consumption. Unigen scientists used this library of comprehensive botanical profiles to identify plants that can provide beneficial biological activity to sustain a healthy living.
Loesyn™ is a patented plant-based supplement derived from a unique combination of Aloe chromone from Aloe ferox and Aloe vera leaf gel powder from Aloe barbadensis.
Over 2,059 medicinal plants from Unigen’s PhytoLogix® library were screened to identify natural substances increase adiponectin production by adipocytes. Adiponectin is a protein in blood to help maintain normal healthy insulin sensitivity. The active components from the screen were identified by HPLC-Mass Spectrometry and NMR and shown to be highly specific components in extracts from Aloe.
The combination of these two extracts produced healthy glucose levels and normal insulin sensitivity maintenance already within normal ranges.*
Mechanism of Action
The healthy glucose levels and normal insulin sensitivity maintenance activity of Loesyn™ is derived from:
- Increasing adiponectin production by adipocytes
- Increasing multiple key genes in the insulin receptor signaling cascade such as Insulin receptor (INSR), Insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) and Glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4)
- Modifying multiple metabolic pathways in liver for lipid metabolism including decreased fatty acid biosynthesis, Increased fatty acid binding proteins, and decreased lipid uptake.
Scientific Research
Pre-Clinical Data
Loesyn™ supplement relative to vehicle given mice demonstrated the following results:
- Reduced fasting plasma glucose levels comparable to that achieved with GW1929 treatment (Figure 4)
- Significantly improved glucose tolerance, as measured by intraperitoneal glucose tolerance tests, comparable to that achieved with GW1929 (Figure 5)
- Significantly improved insulin sensitization as measured by intraperitoneal insulin tolerance tests (Figure 6)
- Reduced fasting blood triglyceride concentrations comparably to GW1929 (Figure 7)
- Significantly reduced hepatic triglyceride and cholesterol content to levels comparable to that of lean mice fed with normal chow (Figure 8)
Clinical Data
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled, IRB approved clinical trial:
- Loesyn™ has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated.
- Loesyn™ has been shown significant maintenance of normal healthy levels of fasting plasma glucose and insulin with improvement in HOMA (insulin sensitivity index).*
- Loesyn™ has been shown significant support in healthy long term and short-term glycemic maintenance (reduced HbA1C and fructosamine).*
- Loesyn™ has shown reduction in oxidative stress (F2-isoprostanes) in certain populations.*
Product Safety
Safety is a top priority at Unigen. All the ingredients we develop undergo rigorous safety testing using state-of-the-art in vitro, pre-clinical, and/or human safety studies (for some ingredients).* Loesyn™ was found safe through these stringent safety studies.*
